William L. Goode, 57, of North Richland Hills had a heart attack in Midland and died Tuesday, June 18, 2013. Graveside service: William will be buried in the family plot in San Angelo with a private family graveside service at a future date. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity of your choice. He was born in Midland on April 12, 1956, to Louise and W.L. Goode. William enjoyed sports, both watching and playing. He played football until graduating from Midland High School in 1974 and played on the MHS baseball team which won the Texas State Championship. In college and as a young man he was active as a certified football referee and baseball umpire. He did his undergraduate work at Baylor University, but graduated from Dallas Baptist University. For 17 years, he worked as an executive in charge of inventory and procurement of cable and wiring for GTE, which later became Verizon. Then he began his teaching career. He taught one year in Arlington ISD, five years at Lena Pope and has taught the last two years at the Middle Level Learning Center in Fort Worth ISD. He enjoyed a rich and rewarding position on the executive committee for a local Boy Scout troop. He was a mentor and friend to many as he hosted hunting trips and family gatherings on his ranch near Menard, where guests enjoyed the deer, turkey and hummingbirds. He enjoyed bird hunting, fishing and sharing the wildlife with others through his advanced photography skills. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jessie Lee and Homer Goode; and his maternal grandparents, Elsie and Lois Gayer, all of San Angelo. Survivors: His parents, W.L. "Boots" and Louise Gayer Goode of Midland; and a brother, Tick Goode and his wife, Brenda, of Wylie.

I remember William as a kind and gentle giant of a boy.  I wish I had known him better.  Rest in Peace, William.
